How Kenji Found His Genius
I often get email or other communication from people who want to thank me for helping them discover their genius in my book Is Your Genius At Work? Kenji Crosland went far beyond thanks in a blog post in which he not only reviewed the book but also described his six-month-long journey to find his genius. Even if you aren’t interested in the book, Kenji’s post is worth a read to share his enthusiasm, joy, and terrific writing.
You will find Kenji’s post HERE.

Beth Lee Connects The Dots
One of the best things about writing a book such as my Is Your Genius At Work? is that I get notes like the one below. It came from Beth Lee [Facebook link], who attended a workshop based on that book that I led in Fargo as a guest of Jodee Bock.
First, a little background. This is what I mean when I use the term “genius”:
Don’t Let The Limits Get You Down
I surprised my audience (and even myself) by talking about the Mona Lisa in response to a question following a keynote to a group of project managers. The keynote was about one of my favorite themes – the potential for any work to be approached as an art form, with accompanying opportunities for personal fulfillment and creative expression. A man in the audience respectfully asked about the difficulties of finding such luxuries as fulfillment and creative expression within tight budgets, limited job opportunities, and relentless pressure for measurable bottom-line results. It is a familiar refrain today. As I listened to the question, the image of DaVinci’s masterpiece floated across my mind.
“What you do makes me cry at night.”
Have we gotten the message? It was sent in 1992. The messenger was a thirteen year old Canadian girl, Severn Suzuki. The setting was the United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Let Severn speak for herself; no further comment from me…

Come To The Bigger Small Talk Summit And Genius Workshop
Jodee Bock has opened registration for the third annual two-day Bigger Small Talk Summit, June 16-17, 2009, in Fargo.
Day one allows the people who attend to set the agenda based on their own passions and interests, and to engage in dialogue that is deeper than every-day conversation. Day two is a guided experience, which I will lead, based on my book, Is Your Genius At Work?
See details and/or register HERE and come share in this wonderful event.
Put THIS In Your Calendar
For each of the last two years I have been priveleged to lead a workshop based on my book, Is Your Genius At Work?, in Fargo, North Dakota. The workshop is one day of a two day event, The Bigger Small Talk Summit, sponsored by Jodee Bock’s Bock’s Office.
Jodee is beginning to plan this year’s event. She says this:
We are currently planning the Third Annual Bigger Small Talk Summit for June 16-17 in Fargo. Here people will get a chance to participate in dialogue that leads to meaningful and difference-making action in the world. In addition, they will get a chance to discover and name their own Genius under the expert direction and guidance of Dick Richards, author of Is Your Genius At Work? and the powerful blog Riding on Dragons.
Hanging Out With Hoodlums And Hanging On With Rock And Roll
Sometimes it is good to let go, and sometimes it is good to hang on.
The Scout (bless her scouty nature) found Hoodlums Music, an independently owned music store in Tempe, Arizona, a ten minute drive from our home. I’m like that kid in the candy shop in there. They specialize in the old stuff, stuff I used to have on vinyl.
And the people who work there know the music. I was chatting with one of them when I spied a Todd Rundgren album. I said, “Geez. I’ll bet I haven’t thought about Todd Rundgren in thirty years.” He said, “That’s OK. Nobody has.” Priceless.
